This species is most similar to the Spotted Python, Antaresia maculosa, which is fawn to brown with numerous dark purplish-brown blotches. Females should be given some extra meals prior to breeding season to build up some fat reserves that will be needed for egg formation and oviposition.
A row of deep pits can be seen along the lower jaw and many small scales are present on the top of the head. They do not completely rely on trees, however, and are capable of moving around elsewhere. The eggs are concealed in a sheltered site (beneath building materials, between hay bales, hollow stump or a depression in ground) and are incubated by the female who will `shiver' to generate heat.

We currently have an evolved version of the ‘Moonglow’ combination of brilliant white albinos comprised of Albinism, Axanthism & Caramel. Carpet pythons kill prey by constricting it until it suffocates. This species is widespread and found throughout northern, eastern and southern Australia. Over the last few seasons I have been working on a way to create a Carpet Python of similar phenotype to the ‘Lava’ Blue Tongue. Carpet snakes are extremely variable in colour and pattern. We also keep a pair of pure Aussie GTPs & a small breeding group of Albino Olive pythons which we have been fortunate to reproduce on 3 separate occasions.

Carpet pythons are extremely diverse in appearance and seven geographical races or subspecies are recognised: Male Carpet Snakes have been observed fighting in spring. However, care must be taken when feeding, as these snakes have a strong "feeding response" behaviour that can be mistaken for aggression. Morelia spilota are also found in temperate grasslands with hot and dry weather.
Most carpet pythons are annual breeders, and cycling them on a yearly basis will yield the best results. This species is non-venomous, but tetanus protection is recommended following bites.
